Antenna Solutions

COMPANY INFORMATION & TECH.

Company history and background

Antenna Solutions was founded in the early spring of 2009.

The reason for the owner to start the company was the lack of quality built antennas for the HF frequencies that where well suited for portable or emergency field work. A set of goals where set to develop a product that would meet the following criteria.

1.     Make an antenna that covers as many HF bands as possible.

2.     Make it as simple to use as possible

3.     Make it robust enough that it will survive in the field no matter what.

4.     Make it affordable yet still use the finest materials.

5.     Make it work better then any other item in its class.

Well, we have done that.  After 2 years of research and development and extensive testing. We created the EFAB Antenna. It covers 3.5 Mhz to 52 Mhz and all the time staying below a 3:1 SWR.  We did it with out using any trickery, like using resistors. The secret lies in the center of every fiberglass box.  That is the way Antenna Solutions was founded.  Starting with the idea, 2 years of research and developing then testing produced a TLT transformer, which met all our criteria.

With the success of the EFAB antenna, we had request for more and different designs. Today we manufacture six different products.  All these products share the same unique standards for quality and durability as we first began with.  We are certain that when you need one antenna capable of doing all the HF Bands Antenna Solutions will have the answer.

Construction of our devices

We take pride in the construction of our products.  Each and everyone of our products contain a matching unit, sealed in a 5X5X2 inch heavy duty marine grade PVC  enclosure.  Further more, their permanently sealed with a marine grade sealant for long service life.  We use only Ampenol SO-239 connectors not some bargain brand as most all the competitors do and all hardware is either marine grade or 18:8 stainless steel.  Our wire is insulated 14 or 12 gauge wire and we use glazed ceramic end insulators.  We admit, we went a bit over the top when we designed these units but we wanted to sell you top quality products

The Internals of the matching units while slightly differ from model to model all basically share the same common components.  They all use multiple Fair rite ®  Brand torriods,  Belden ® Brand Thremleze® 14 gauge wire and a specially manufactured heavy walled Teflon tubing. This combination assures us a very high breakdown voltage.

Who else puts this much into an antenna for so little?

The Matching unit

Let’s talk about the gray box that makes all of our products function.  The first question we get is, “is that a balun?”  The honest answer would have to be no.  Even though we do in fact manufacture two dipole antennas, we can not call the matching unit a balun in the purist state.  What the device is in fact is a high impendence choke with a specially designed set of cores for each specific application.

Another question we get asked quite often is, “if I add more wire to my antenna will it increase the effectiveness of the antenna?”  Most likely not, for that simple reason as stated above, it was designed, tested and optimized with the set up you purchased it with.  The Matching unit plays a very big part in the effectiveness of your new antenna.  While it may need to be trimmed some for optimum results, you should never need to add length too the antenna.

The EFAB Antenna was based on a design that was to compete with the Comet CHA-250B ™ Antenna.  The pit falls in their antenna were corrected in our new design.  First, we never use resistors, as we did not see the need to add losses or redesign the dummy load.  Instead, we utilized larger and far more robust components in the construction. We also corrected the severely limited power handling they had in their design.  Large ferrite cores and heavy duty Thermaleze wire were employed and covered in a Teflon tubing for even greater power handling.  The antenna has been extensively field tested at 1500 watts without a single failure.

OurWimdoms and Dipoles have been designed with our proprietary matching networks engineered here at Antenna Solutions.  This unique network has permitted us the greatest amount of spectrum coverage with the minimum amount of insertion losses. Construction of the network is robust and uses the same high quality components found in our EFAB antenna products.

All the devices made for Antenna Solutions are hand assembled using only the finest American made components and stainless steel hardware. Quality is important to us and we will not offer any one less than our best.
